At its annual investor meeting, NTPC announced it had achieved a total installed capacity of 76 GW by the end of June 2024. The company added 4 GW in FY24, with 21 GW under construction and 26 GW in planning. The latest addition was a prestigious 40 MW project in Ayodhya, commissioned on July 31, 2024.

The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) added 21 renewable energy stations, totaling 3,117 MW and making up 4.10% of its energy mix. NTPC plans to add 16 GW over the next three years. In FY24, the company achieved its highest profit and generation, realizing Rs. 1.57 lakh crore.

In April this year, NTPC set a target to add 5 GW of installed capacity, to increase renewable energy by 3 GW. In FY24, NTPC added 3,924 MW, bringing its total installed capacity to nearly 76 GW, including 3.5 GW of operational renewable energy and a pipeline exceeding 20 GW. With a strong balance sheet supporting India’s renewable goals, NTPC needs to add almost 8 GW annually to meet its targets. The renewable capacity target is 5 GW for 2025, with a significant increase expected, aiming for 8 GW in FY25-26.

By 2032, NTPC aims to have 45-50% of its portfolio comprised of non-fossil-based capacity, targeting 60 GW of renewable energy within a total portfolio of 130 GW.
