India’s renewable energy market witnessed a strong boost in the first half of 2025, with the country adding 3.8 GW of open access solar capacity. According to recent industry data, this marks one of the fastest growth phases in India’s C&I (Commercial and Industrial) solar adoption, reinforcing the nation’s shift towards cost-effective and sustainable power.
The installations, spread across major industrial hubs including Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Karnataka, are designed with high-efficiency solar panels ranging between 540Wp and 600Wp. These projects are expected to generate over 5,500 million units annually, significantly reducing reliance on fossil fuels and cutting down industrial electricity bills.
Industry officials highlighted that open access solar has become the preferred choice for large-scale consumers due to its flexibility, scalability, and reduced tariff costs. The rise is also fueled by favorable policies, including waiver of transmission charges and faster approvals under the Green Open Access Rules. This momentum is projected to continue in H2 2025 as more states streamline regulations and businesses seek energy independence.
With India targeting 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030, the addition of 3.8 GW open access solar capacity in just six months showcases how quickly industries are embracing clean energy solutions.
