On March 23, 2026, the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) approved tariffs for 2.4 GW of wind-solar hybrid power projects, marking a significant step toward strengthening India’s renewable energy ecosystem. These projects, awarded through NHPC Limited, include additional capacity under a greenshoe option and are aligned with India’s ambitious clean energy targets.
The tariffs were discovered through a competitive e-reverse auction conducted in March 2025, with rates finalized at ₹3.41/kWh for 990 MW and ₹3.42/kWh for 210 MW, reflecting highly competitive pricing compared to conventional power sources. These projects are connected to the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS), ensuring efficient power evacuation and nationwide distribution.
The hybrid projects combine solar PV and wind generation to deliver more consistent and reliable power output. While specific module configurations vary by developer, such large-scale hybrid installations typically deploy utility-scale solar panels (500W+ modules) integrated with wind turbines to optimize generation across different time periods. This hybrid approach is expected to significantly enhance grid stability and improve capacity utilization factors compared to standalone renewable projects.
With an aggregate capacity of 2.4 GW, these projects are expected to generate billions of units of clean electricity annually, supporting DISCOMs in meeting their Renewable Purchase Obligations (RPOs). The approval also ensures alignment with Ministry of Power guidelines, including provisions for power purchase agreements (PPAs) and trading margins. Overall, this move is set to accelerate hybrid renewable deployment and strengthen India’s transition toward a reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable energy mix.
