The Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission (UERC) has adopted competitively discovered tariffs for four Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects with a combined capacity of 76 MW/190 MWh in the state. The regulatory orders were issued on September 30, 2026, following tariff-based competitive bidding conducted by Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UJVNL). The projects are planned at Khatima, Dhakrani, Pathri and Tiloth, strengthening Uttarakhand’s energy storage infrastructure and its ability to manage peak electricity demand.

The four projects comprise a 30 MW/75 MWh BESS at Dhakrani in Dehradun, a 15 MW/37.5 MWh system at Khatima in Udham Singh Nagar, a 16 MW/40 MWh project at Pathri in Haridwar, and a 15 MW/37.5 MWh project at Tiloth in Uttarkashi. UERC records identify UJVN Limited as the petitioner, with Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited involved in the associated Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreements. Patanjali Renewable Energy Pvt. Ltd. was selected for the Dhakrani, Khatima and Pathri projects, while Armee Infotech Ltd. was awarded the Tiloth project.

The approved capacity charges are ₹2,69,832/MW/month for Dhakrani, ₹2,79,782/MW/month for Khatima, ₹2,79,501/MW/month for Pathri and ₹2,80,000/MW/month for Tiloth. The projects are being developed with Viability Gap Funding (VGF) support under the Power System Development Fund, which is intended to improve the commercial viability of large-scale battery storage. The BESS facilities are expected to help shift electricity availability toward periods of higher demand, supporting grid flexibility and reducing reliance on expensive peak-hour power purchases.

The Uttarakhand projects mark another step in India’s expanding utility-scale energy storage market. By adding 190 MWh of battery storage capacity, the state can improve its ability to balance electricity supply and demand while integrating renewable power more effectively. Since these are BESS projects rather than solar PV plants, panel specifications and annual solar generation figures are not applicable to the project scope. The development also highlights the growing role of battery storage in strengthening grid reliability and managing renewable energy variability.
