According to Mercom sources, the Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMSL) bidding for the 600 MW floating solar park at the Omkareshwar reservoir in Madhya Pradesh had an enormous response.
The Solar Energy Corporation of India and Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Limited have partnered to form Rewa Ultra Mega Solar.
The 600 MW capacity will be made up of six grid-connected floating solar photovoltaic projects, each with a capacity of 100 MW, that will be built at pre-determined positions around the Omkareshwar reservoir. The evacuation infrastructure for the projects will be provided by RUMSL.
The technical bids were opened for the project’s first phase, which has a capacity of 300 MW, and the reverse auction is set for May 6, 2022.
According to sources, the technical bids for the remaining 300 MW will be scheduled soon.
The tender has been shortlisted to 15 bidders, with 14 local and one international bidder.
NHDC, Aditya Birla Energy, SJVN, NTPC, Tata Power, Amp Energy, Solarpack, Hinduja Renewables Energy, Adani Renewable Energy, Enel Green Power India, Navayuga Engineering Company, Phelan Energy, Power Mech Projects, and O2 Power are among the bidders.
The issue of land needs, which is common in ground-mount solar installations, is addressed with floating solar projects. Despite their many advantages, however, floating solar arrays have been difficult to take off. India now has roughly 170 MW of floating solar projects operational, compared to 52 GW of solar installations.
RUMSL has published a request for proposal (RFP) in April this year for consultancy firms to prepare a feasibility report for three reservoirs in Madhya Pradesh for the development of floating solar projects.
