The Jharkhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (JREDA) is planning to install over 2,500 solar-powered water pumps under the PM -Kusum Yojana (Component-B). The organization has already floated the tender document for the project.
Each solar water pump installed will have a capacity of 7 horsepower (5.2 kW). Moreover, each pump set costs around ₹1.2 lakh. The pumps will be installed in areas where farmers have limited or no access to diesel-powered or grid-connected water pumps due to inhospitable terrain.
The pump set will be installed by the selected agency on a turnkey basis i.e., the contractor will hold complete responsibility for the design and execution of the project. Moreover, around 30% of the cost of the pump set will be borne by the Centre, 64% by the state government, and the remaining 6% by the beneficiary.
Each year JREDA identifies 8,500 beneficiaries for the scheme. The beneficiaries are selected based on a review of applications by the deputy commissioner of the district.
As per the data shared by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, 36,717 solar-powered water pumps have been sanctioned in Jharkhand as of July 31st. Further, Jharkhand is one of the top four states in India when it comes to solar water pump distribution under the PM Kusum Yojana.
The state is making significant strides to boost its solar power capacity. Towards the goal, JREDA unveiled Jharkhand’s new solar policy last year to add 4 GW solar capacity in the next 5 years.
