State-owned engineering firm BHEL said it has bagged its first-ever overseas order for a grid-connected solar power project in Mauritius.
Bhel will be set-up the solar firm on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis at Tamarind Falls, Henrietta (Phase II). CEB (Green Energy) Co. Ltd, Mauritius, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Central Electricity Board (CEB) of the Mauritius government, has been awarded the contract for the project to Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited.
The Indian Government funded this project under the Line of Credit (LOC) through the Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM Bank) and has been secured by BHEL through a competitive bidding process. It will be executed by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. The Solar Business Division will be executed by the Bengaluru branch of BHEL, and the International Operations Division by The New Delhi branch of BHEL.
The government of Mauritius is planning to increase the use of renewable sources of energy from the current level of around 22% to 35% by 2025.
It marks the consolidation of BHEL’s presence in Africa, where it has been active for more than four decades with electricity generation projects (approximately 2,100 MW) and equipment supplies in 23 African countries.
