Habibganj railway station in Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) has become an example of green building design. It has been designed and developed to suit international airports. This is the reason why it has been given a gem rating of five stars by ASSOCHAM (The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India).
1 MW solar power plant is being installed to meet the electricity consumption of Habibganj railway station located in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, through solar. This plant will be functional by next month. The Infra of this green building was designed and developed to suit international airports, thats’ why ASSOCHAM (The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India) has given five stars gem rating to it.
As per the green building standards, it includes optimum use of natural light, better ventilation, use of recyclable materials, use of recycled water, the harnessing of solar energy, rainwater harvesting, eco-friendly construction. In this project, sustainable building design and a climate-conscious approach have been adopted with minimum damage to the environment during construction and use of the building.
Abu Asif, who is the project manager of Bansal Pathways, said that roof-top solar panels are already being installed. It will be a 1 MW solar facility. After this, the station will not require electricity from outside.
This is the first project of railway station redevelopment in Indian history, which is done by public-private partnership mode.
The process of converting Habibganj into a world-class station had started in July 2016, with an estimated cost of Rs 450 crore. After which this project was divided into two parts. Under the first part, Rs 100 crore was earmarked for the facelift of the station, while the remaining Rs 350 crore was allocated for commercial facilities.
In the project, the solar modules are installing on the top of the sheds to cover the platform.
Mr. Asif further added that with a climate-conscious approach and ensuring minimum damage to the environment during construction, it is an example of sustainable construction work using the optimum amount of energy, water, natural resources as compared to other conventional buildings.
Mr. Asif also said that the infrastructure work has been completed. This redevelopment work was given the new deadline of March 31, 2021, a year later than the previous deadline of March 31, 2020, due to pandemic-related issues.
