Solar streetlights will be installed in the four wards of every panchayat of the Gaya district of Bihar under the Chief Minister’s solar light scheme. Approximately 320 panchayats of the region will benefit from the move.
As per an official, ten electric poles have been marked for street light installation in every ward of Gaya. Moreover, the installation will begin in 2-3 days, says the district magistrate, Mr. Thiyagarajan SM.
For the installation and maintenance of the lights, Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA) has selected three agencies. The organizations will be responsible for the maintenance of the installed lights for 5 years.
One private firm was allotted 1460 wards of 107 panchayats in Konch, Tekari, Paraiya, Belaganj, Khizersarai, Neemchak Bathani, Atri, and Mohra. Another was assigned 1420 wards of 103 panchayats of Gaya Sadar, Bodh Gaya, Manpur, Fatehpur, Tankuppa, Wazirganj, and Gurua blocks.
The third agency was given 1499 wards in 110 panchayats of Amas, Sherghati, Dobhi, Barachatti, Bankebazar, Imamganj, Dumaria, Mohanpur, and Guraru.
To ensure the effective execution of the project, the DM has instructed officials to create a checklist to determine the areas where work is pending.
The Bihar government is constantly introducing initiatives to expand its renewable energy portfolio. In March, the state government announced plans to turn Bodh Gaya, Vaishali, and Rajgir into solar cities in 2024. As part of this goal, the government will install over 15 lakh solar-powered street lights in the panchayats of Bihar.
