In a significant shift in India’s green energy landscape, Gujarat has surpassed Rajasthan to become the leading state in renewable energy capacity as of April 30, 2025. With a total installed capacity of 35,163 MW, Gujarat now leads the country in harnessing clean energy from solar, wind, hydro, and bio sources.
This milestone highlights Gujarat’s strategic push across multiple renewable sectors. The state has witnessed accelerated growth in both solar and wind power, strengthening its clean energy portfolio. Backed by progressive policies and a business-friendly environment, Gujarat has successfully fast-tracked the development of large-scale renewable energy projects across its landscape.
To support grid stability and industrial access to green power, Gujarat is also planning large-scale battery energy storage systems in key industrial regions. These systems will allow industries to use renewable energy even after sunset, promoting round-the-clock clean power usage.
With over 3.36 lakh rooftop solar systems already installed under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, Gujarat continues to lead not just in utility-scale projects but also in decentralised solar adoption. As the state eyes more advanced solar parks and pumped hydro storage systems, it is setting a benchmark for India’s energy transition journey.
