Amp Energy India on Monday said it has commissioned a 7.8 MW solar power plant, one of the largest behind-the-meter solar projects in India, for Hyderabad’s metro rail project.
It added that the project is a public-private partnership between Mumbai-based infrastructure firm Larsen &Toubro (L&T) and Telangana’s state government.
“Amp Energy has installed a 7.8 MW solar plant supplying power to L&T in Hyderabad, Telangana, for the metro project to provide solar power to its 24 stations and two depots in the city,” the renewable energy firm said in a press release.
It said that the project would generate 11,300 MWh of green energy in a year, equivalent to reducing about 8,000 metric tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
“This initiative will help us in reducing our carbon footprint and using green energy to partly power our operations,” said K V B Reddy, managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO), L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad).
According to the firm, the Hyderabad metro rail project would meet 15 percent of its total power consumption through solar power supplied by Amp Energy.
“We believe that projects like these will provide the right momentum for public transports across India to switch to sustainable energy sources and help meet India’s climate goals,” said Pinaki Bhattacharyya, MD, and CEO, Amp Energy India.
