The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur has set a new sustainability benchmark with the launch of its 2 MW solar park at its Mihan-SEZ campus. Inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the project is expected to be completed in six months, paving the way for IIM Nagpur to become a zero-emission campus.
After laying the foundation stone for the 2 MW solar project, the CM inaugurated a first-of-its-kind golf academy on the 130-acre campus. “It is a momentous occasion for IIM Nagpur as it takes a significant step toward becoming a net-zero campus,” he said.
Fadnavis also encouraged AIIMS Nagpur to establish a solar park, following IIM-N’s example.
Emphasizing energy transition goals, Fadnavis stated that institutions like IIM Nagpur will be key in achieving them, with Maharashtra already taking steps. “By 2030, 52% of energy will come from renewables and non-conventional sources,” he said.
The CM also said that Nagpur is setting many new benchmarks. “IIM Nagpur will also inspire AIIMS in starting a solar park and becoming a net-zero campus,” he said.
IIM Nagpur Director Bhimaraya Metri, former Rajya Sabha MP Ajay Sancheti, MLAs Ashish Jaiswal and Ashish Deshmukh, MSETCL CMD Sanjeev Kumar, and CP Gurnani, Chairman of the Board of Governors at IIM Nagpur, were among the dignitaries present. The solar project is set to significantly cut the campus’s carbon footprint and operational costs. Metri said, “This mega initiative will ensure a more reliable and eco-friendly power source, marking a significant step toward achieving our ‘Net Zero Campus’ goal.”
