The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) has formally approved six domestic solar cell manufacturers—FS India (First Solar), Jupiter, Emmvee, Mundra Solar (Adani), Premier Energies, and ReNew—for inclusion in the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List‑II. Collectively, these firms offer a combined annual cell production capacity of 13 GW
This approval is part of India’s push for self-reliant solar manufacturing and aims to reduce dependence on imports, especially from China. From July 1, 2026, new solar projects will be required to use both ALMM‑listed modules and solar cells to qualify for central incentives
The move significantly strengthens domestic production infrastructure. For instance, Emmvee contributes 1.55 GW of TOPCon cell capacity, Mundra Solar has 3.83 GW, and FS India alone has 3.21 GW capacity. This supports India’s broader goal of expanding non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW by 2030, with solar at the heart of the transition.
