India is expanding its solar power sector, aiming to increase its solar PV module manufacturing capacity from 80 GW to 125 GW by 2030 and boost solar cell production from 25 GW to 40 GW. This will reduce reliance on imports and enhance energy security.

A crucial part of this strategy is the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which incentivizes domestic solar cell and module production, positioning India as a stronger player in the global renewable energy market.

At the inauguration of a 5.4 GW solar cell facility in Gujarat, officials emphasized the state’s pivotal role in the renewable energy sector. Policies like Atmanirbhar Gujarat have attracted significant investment, further bolstering India’s position as a global manufacturing hub for solar energy.

By 2030, India also plans to reach 500 GW of renewable energy capacity, including efforts to produce green ammonia and electrolyzers, diversifying its renewable energy offerings.

This expansion strengthens India’s renewable energy infrastructure, improving self-sufficiency and contributing to global green energy goals, ensuring energy security and a sustainable future.
