According to recent data, India’s renewable energy journey continues to gain momentum, with solar installations crossing 105.646 GW by March 2025. This significant milestone means that solar energy accounts for 22.23% of India’s total installed power capacity. Overall, renewable energy (excluding large hydro) constitutes 36.27% of the country’s energy mix, signaling India’s deepening commitment to cleaner and sustainable energy solutions.
The country’s total installed power capacity grew by 7.52% year-on-year, reaching 475 GW by March 2025. Notably, solar energy emerged as the dominant force, contributing 61.29% of the renewable capacity. This marks a remarkable 29.13% growth in solar installations compared to the previous year.
However, coal remains the largest contributor, supplying 45.28% of the nation’s power, reflecting the ongoing challenge of balancing a transition to renewables while maintaining grid stability.
The rapid expansion of solar and wind energy is not only helping India meet its climate commitments but also creating new employment opportunities in rural and semi-urban regions.
