On 28 September 2025, the native village of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Kondareddypally (in Vangoor mandal, Nagarkurnool district, Telangana), was officially declared fully solar powered, making it the second village in India to claim this status, after Modhera in Gujarat. Under Telangana’s Green Energy Mission, the project was executed via TGREDCO with coordinated support from the state power utilities and local administration.

The solarisation plan in Kondareddypally covers 514 houses and 11 government buildings, including schools, offices, and panchayat infrastructure. Of these, 480 homes are already equipped with 3 kW rooftop solar systems, while public buildings together have a capacity of 60 kW. This pushes the village’s total installed capacity to 1,500 kW (1.5 MW). Each household system is designed to generate about 360 units of electricity per month. This comfortably meets domestic demand and enables villagers to export surplus power to the grid at ₹5.25 per unit. In September alone, Kondareddypally exported nearly 1 lakh units, earning residents an additional ₹5 lakh in revenue.

The village has 1,451 registered electricity consumers, comprising 499 domestic, 66 commercial, and 867 agricultural connections. The project was completed at an estimated cost of ₹10.53 crore, supported through central subsidies and CSR contributions. All surplus power is fed into the grid under net-metering agreements, effectively turning villagers into small-scale green energy producers. Officials also confirmed that mud-walled homes will soon be upgraded under the Indiramma housing scheme, ensuring that every household benefits from solar power.

This milestone underscores how careful planning, community participation, and modern solar technology can transform a rural settlement into a net-zero energy model. Kondareddypally now stands as a flagship example for future village-level solarization across India.
