The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has given a green signal to set up the solar park in Runn at Kutch, Gujarat. The generation capacity of this solar power park will be 4.75 GW, which will be the largest solar park in India. This solar park will set up by the state-run company National Thermal Power Corporation Limited ( NTPC).
NTPC Renewable Energy, which is the subsidiary company of NTPC Ltd, got approval from MNRE to set this solar park under Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Park Scheme.
According to the recent announcement of NTPC, they are planning to invest ₹1 trillion between 2019 and 2024 to installed 65.81 GW generation capacity to become a power producer with 130 GW capacity by 2032, of which 60 GW will come from renewable energy. The public sector undertaking (PSU) has announced its target of 10% reduction in net energy intensity so that they can do carbon neutrality & touch their renewable energy target.
Along with this, State-run companies including NTPC plan to build massive green energy parks under the UMREPP (Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Park) scheme in wind- and solar-resource-rich states.
NTPC Renewable Energy also plans to generate green hydrogen on a commercial scale from this solar park. The 4.75 GW solar capacity will reportedly be part of the massive 30 GW hybrid renewable energy park (this 30 GW park will be the world’s largest hybrid renewable energy park spread over 72,600 hectares in Kutch) coming up in Kutch. The expected investment is around 1.5 lakh crore rupees for this hybrid renewable energy park project.
