Uttar Pradesh's Solar Capacity is continously expanding

NTPC Limited has achieved a significant milestone in India’s renewable energy sector by commissioning 100 MW out of its total 176 MW Solar PV Project at Ramagundam, Telangana, marking a key step in its clean energy expansion strategy. The newly operational capacity was officially declared under commercial operation effective May 2, 2026, following successful commissioning, as per regulatory filings.

Located in Ramagundam in Telangana’s Peddapalli district, the project combines both floating and ground-mounted solar installations, reflecting NTPC’s hybrid approach to maximizing generation efficiency. The total project capacity stands at 176 MW, of which 100 MW is now operational, strengthening NTPC’s renewable portfolio and contributing to its growing installed capacity, which has reached approximately 89,805 MW.

The Ramagundam solar ecosystem also includes one of India’s most advanced floating solar plants, featuring modular blocks with high-efficiency solar PV modules. Earlier installations at the site have demonstrated strong performance, with systems designed to generate around 223 million units of electricity annually, while reducing carbon emissions and conserving water by limiting evaporation losses. These engineering innovations highlight the scalability and sustainability of floating solar technology in India’s energy transition.

This development aligns with NTPC’s long-term renewable energy roadmap, which targets 60 GW of renewable capacity by 2032, positioning the company as a leader in India’s clean energy transformation. The phased commissioning of the NTPC’s Ramagundam Solar Project underscores the growing momentum in utility-scale solar adoption and reinforces the role of large-scale solar infrastructure in meeting the country’s decarbonisation goals.
