After the commissioning of the last part of 21 MW capacity, NTPC’s 56 MW Kawas Solar PV project in Gujarat is now fully operational.
The project was declared commercially operational on 15th August 2022, according to the regulatory filing made by the state-owned power organization.
The Kawas Solar project is a mix of 33 MW ground-mounted solar and 23 MW floating solar components. The plant is installed inside the existing NTPC Kawas Gas-based power station. The project was developed under the CPSU Scheme Phase-II Tranche-I of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Govt. of India (MNRE) through Vikram Solar under EPC mode.

NTPC has stated that with this project, its standalone installed and commercial capacity has reached 55089 MW, and its group installed and commercial capacity has become 69454 MW. This figure includes coal & gas-based power stations along with hydel, wind, and solar power.
Specifically, for renewable energy, the state-owned power giant has planned to create 35 GW of energy capacity by 2027 and generate 10 billion units (BU) of green energy in 2022-23.
