NTPC Green Energy Adds 180 MW Solar in Rajasthan & Gujarat, Capacity Nears 10 GW

NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), the renewable arm of NTPC Limited, has successfully commissioned 180 MW of solar capacity across Rajasthan and Gujarat as of March 2026. This latest addition marks another significant step in India’s clean energy transition, strengthening NTPC’s growing renewable portfolio across high-potential solar states. With this commissioning, the company is now approaching the 10 GW renewable energy capacity milestone, reinforcing its leadership in India’s green energy sector.

The newly operational capacity is part of NTPC’s ongoing solar expansion strategy, particularly in regions like Gujarat’s Khavda and Rajasthan’s solar parks, which are emerging as major renewable hubs. These projects are being executed through NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NREL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NGEL. The company has been steadily commissioning phased capacities across large-scale solar parks, including projects like Khavda-II, which alone has a planned capacity of 1,200 MW.

The addition of 180 MW is expected to contribute significantly to clean power generation, supporting India’s decarbonisation goals. Large-scale solar installations in these regions typically generate substantial annual energy while reducing carbon emissions and dependence on fossil fuels. NTPC’s recent commissioning activities across Gujarat and Rajasthan align with its broader strategy to scale renewable capacity rapidly, as seen in earlier additions of over 350 MW solar capacity in these states.

With India aggressively expanding its renewable energy base, NTPC Green Energy continues to play a pivotal role in driving utility-scale solar adoption. The company’s long-term target includes achieving tens of gigawatts of renewable capacity in the coming years, contributing to national goals and strengthening grid sustainability.
