PM-KUSUM Achieves Major Milestone: 10.9 Lakh Solar Pumps and ₹7,106 Crore Support

India has made strong headway under the PM-KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) scheme, with over 10.9 lakh agricultural pumps solarized and ₹7,106 crore in central financial assistance released as of 30 November 2025, the government reported in the Lok Sabha on 10 December 2025. This marks a significant expansion in the use of solar irrigation and renewable energy systems across rural India, reducing dependence on diesel and grid electricity while boosting farmers’ energy security.

Under Component B (standalone solar pumps), states such as Maharashtra, Haryana, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand have seen strong participation, with Maharashtra installing 4,66,719 solar pumps out of 5,75,000 sanctioned, and Haryana solarizing 1,80,564 out of 1,97,655 sanctioned. Under Component C (solarisation of existing grid-connected pumps), Maharashtra leads again with 6,54,695 pumps solarized, followed by Gujarat and Rajasthan, demonstrating widespread adoption of distributed solar for agriculture.

Meanwhile, Component A (decentralized solar power plants) has seen notable sanctioned capacities — with Rajasthan leading at 5,250 MW, though only 466.75 MW has been installed so far. States like Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat also show progress under this component. Central financial assistance under the scheme provides 30 percent support of system costs for Components B and C, increasing to 50 percent in special regions such as the Northeast, J&K, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and islands, thereby expanding equity in solar adoption.
