PM Narendra Modi inaugurated multiple projects in Maharashtra during his visit to Poharadevi in Washim district. Notably, he unveiled the first five solar parks of the world’s largest decentralized 16,000 MW solar power generation project, designed to provide daytime power supply to farmers for irrigation. The Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana 2.0 (MSKVY 2.0) is being implemented in the state on the lines of Central govt’s PM Kusum Yojana.
Currently, development is underway for 9,200 MW of solar power projects, set to be completed in phases by September 2025. Among these, PM Modi inaugurated the first five projects at Dhondalgaon (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar), Bamni Budruk (Nanded), Haroli (Kolhapur), Jalalabad (Akola), and Palshi Budruk (Buldhana), with a total capacity of 19 MW. On this occasion, Modi also transferred ₹20.55 crore in development funds to 411 gram panchayats, supporting the advancement of solar projects.
Additionally, the tender process for developing 4,800 MW of solar power projects has been completed, and work orders have been issued. All projects, totaling 16,000 MW, are scheduled for completion by March 2026, ensuring that farmers receive electricity generated entirely from solar energy.
Following the state government’s approval of MSKVY 2.0 in April 2023, the energy department and MSEDCL made 40,000 acres of public land available for solar power. They completed the tender process, signed power purchase agreements, and upgraded substations. In 11 months, letters of award were issued for 9,200 MW of capacity. Within six months of receiving the LOAs, five projects totaling 19 MW were commissioned and inaugurated by PM Modi.
The scheme will attract Rs 65,000 crore in private investment, creating 50,000 rural jobs. Electricity costs will drop from Rs 8.50 to Rs 3 per unit, saving Rs 10,000 crore annually in power purchases. This will eliminate a Rs 4,500 crore annual subsidy burden on the state government and a Rs 13,000 crore cross subsidy on industries.
