Assam has accelerated its rooftop solar adoption under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, achieving over 34,100 installed systems and facilitating ₹216 crore in subsidies to households across the state. This initiative is significantly expanding access to free, sustainable electricity across regions from the tea estates in Dibrugarh to the urban areas of Guwahati all are powered with solar.

State officials report that the program is reducing reliance on conventional energy sources while delivering substantial cost savings to consumers. The strong uptake reflects Assam’s broader commitment to transitioning to clean energy and enhancing rural and urban resilience within India’s renewable energy framework

The state’s efforts align with national targets under the PM Surya Ghar scheme—aiming to deploy rooftop solar in 40 lakh households by March 2026 and 1 crore households by March 2027. These milestones reflect the Yojana’s pivotal role in democratizing solar access and promoting decentralized clean energy solutions.
