Seeing the impact of the pandemic, Punjab Government has announced a reduction in power tariffs for domestic consumers. This will surely help to boost the lowered morale of middle-class power customers who are suffering from an economical crisis. The new tariff order will apply from June 1 to March 3, 2022.
Due to the pandemic, the weaker sections of society are facing an economical crisis. In response, the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) has announced the new tariff order for the financial year 2021-22.
As per the tariffs for residential consumers with load up to 2 KW and consumption slabs of 0 to 100 units & 101 to 300 units will be reduced by ₹1 (~$0.014)/kWh and ₹0.50 (~$0.007)/kWh, respectively. The earlier tariffs for both categories were ₹4.49 (~$0.062)/kWh and ₹6.34 (~$0.087)/kWh, which have now been set at 3.49 (~$0.048)/kWh and ₹5.84 (~$0.081)/kWh respectively.
For domestic consumers who have a load between 2 KW and up to 7 KW and for consumption slabs of 0 to 100 units & 101 to 300 units, the rates have been reduced by ₹0.75 (~$0.01)/kWh and ₹0.50 (~$0.07)/kWh and now the new tariffs for both categories are ₹3.74 (~$0.052)/kWh and ₹5.84 (~$0.081)/kWh, in that order.
The new tariff order, announced by the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC), will be applicable from June 1, 2021, and will be valid until March 31, 2022.
The Punjab Government has given another relief to the small & medium industrial consumers with no hike in their tariffs while less than 2% increase has been made for large industrial consumers.
Additionally, a special night tariff will continue for all those industrial consumers, who use electricity exclusively from 10 pm to 6 am (the next day), with 50% fixed charges and energy charge of Rs 4.86/kVAh. On Industry demand, the facility for the night category consumers to use electricity during an extended period of four hours from 6 AM to 10 AM (same day) at normal tariff has also been extended for the whole year.
