Rajasthan Emerges as India’s Leading Hub for Decentralised Solar Energy

Rajasthan is rapidly emerging as a hub for decentralised solar energy, with 204 new projects approved under the PM-KUSUM scheme in June 2025. These installations promote sustainable farming practices by reducing dependency on diesel-powered pumps and ensuring farmers have reliable electricity access.

Each project is developed under Component C of the PM-KUSUM scheme, which supports decentralised ground-mounted solar plants and aims to benefit agricultural electricity feeders. The scale of each installation varies between 0.5 MW and 2 MW, with total generation capacity set to exceed 200 MW.

These plants are being developed through Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (RUVNL) in collaboration with private developers, using the Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) model. Under this model, farmers don’t bear the upfront capital cost, while still benefiting from low-cost, uninterrupted solar power for agricultural operations.

This green energy push aligns with Rajasthan’s broader vision of achieving energy security for rural India, supporting climate resilience, and unlocking new income opportunities for landowners who lease their land for solar installations.
