Rajasthan is rapidly accelerating its rooftop solar rollout as part of a broader clean energy push, with over 44,950 new rooftop installations added in just four months from September to December 2025 under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. A state energy official said the pace of adoption — averaging more than 13,000 rooftop solar plants per month — reflects strong consumer interest driven by incentives such as 150 free electricity units per month and attractive subsidies.
Under the scheme, registered consumers are eligible for a ₹17,000 state subsidy on top of a central subsidy of up to ₹78,000 for systems of 1.1 kW and above, making rooftop solar significantly more affordable. So far, more than 2.7 lakh consumers have registered for rooftop installations in the state, and nearly 277,000 have completed the initial registration process.
Rajasthan now ranks fifth in the country with 124,258 rooftop solar plants, and in terms of cumulative installed capacity from all rooftop schemes, the state has achieved 2,417 MW — placing it third nationally. Cities such as Jaipur, Jodhpur and Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigams each contribute tens of thousands of systems, collectively adding nearly 494 MW of distributed solar power under the current initiative.
To further support this momentum, state discoms have implemented standard procedures to streamline approvals, waive various fees, and ensure priority processing of rooftop installations. These measures aim to reduce barriers and make rooftop solar adoption easier for households and businesses, while boosting decentralized clean power generation across the desert state.
