Under the leadership of Anil Ambani, Reliance Power has announced a huge investment of ₹10,000 crore to construct Asia’s largest single-location solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) in Andhra Pradesh. A 930 MW solar power plant and a 465 MW/1,860 MWh battery storage system will be part of the project, which will be executed by its subsidiary, Reliance NU Suntech Pvt. Ltd. The system will supply four hours of peak electricity daily as part of a 25-year contract with SECI.
The project, which will be part of SECI’s Tranche XVII auction in December 2024, would be situated in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. As the biggest individual developer, Reliance NU Suntech won the competition by providing electricity at a competitive rate of ₹3.53 per kWh. It is anticipated that the solar-BESS plant will be completely operational within 24 months of the agreement date and will be constructed using a build-own-operate approach.
Additionally, Reliance Power intends to establish an integrated solar manufacturing facility near Visakhapatnam with an investment of ₹6,500 crore. In the Rambili industrial area, the corporation is seeking to purchase approximately 1,500 acres of land. Over 5,000 individuals are anticipated to find employment during the construction phase of these projects, which collectively are anticipated to provide 1,000 direct jobs.
Reliance Power’s dedication to India’s green energy objectives is strengthened by these developments. The business hopes to provide a reliable and reasonably priced power supply, particularly during peak hours, by combining solar energy with cutting-edge battery storage solution, assisting DISCOMs throughout India in more effectively meeting demand.
