Schools in Prayagraj installing rooftop solar under pm surya ghar yojana
PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana implemented in Prayagraj schools

All government, aided, and unaided schools across Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad) will soon be equipped with rooftop solar plants under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which will significantly reduce their electricity bills and boost environmental education.

The initiative, coordinated by the Chief Development Officer’s office and aided by UPNEDA, invites school principals to register on the official PM Surya Ghar portal. After registration, vendors from UPNEDA’s empanelled list will conduct technical assessments and install solar panels. Eligible schools will receive government subsidies to cover a large portion of the installation costs.

The anticipated impact is substantial: schools stand to lower electricity expenses by up to 70%, freeing up funds for infrastructure, educational resources, and more. Moreover, installing solar systems will provide students with hands-on learning about renewable energy and sustainability—turning school rooftops into real-world classrooms.

Officials have directed that the entire installation process be completed within the current academic session. This move not only cuts costs but also aligns with India’s renewable energy goals and reinforces Prayagraj’s commitment to the Smart City Mission and clean energy leadership.
