Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has announced a collaboration with Maharashtra-based housing society Vivarea Condominium to set up India’s first residential captive solar plant .
A captive solar power plant is one which is installed for self-consumption by the developer, which in this case is Vivarea Condominium.
A 3.12MW solar plant will get installed at Himayatnagar, Maharashtra, generate 7.5 million units of energy and offset 6.15 metric tonnes of CO2 in the first year.
TPREL will undertake the construction, operation and maintenance of the project which will be commissioned by October 2023. The RE organization will supply the society with green energy, at a cost which is 40% less than the existing tariff, for the life of the project.
With this installation, Viverea Condominium will become the first residential society to ‘procure group captive solar power for domestic usage’.
TREPL has an expansive solar portfolio with over 10 GW of ground mounted utility solar projects and 1.3 GW of rooftop and distributed generation projects across India.
