The Telangana government has approved a large-scale plan to procure 3 GW of solar power through phased competitive bidding, marking a major step under the state’s newly adopted Telangana Clean and Green Energy Policy 2025. This decision, formalized on December 1, 2025, was cleared by the state cabinet and directed to the Telangana Green Energy Development Corporation (TGREDCO) for execution. Under the approved roadmap, the 3 GW will be procured in three tranches: 1,000 MW by June 2026, another 1,000 MW by December 2026, and the final 1,000 MW by June 2027. The move is aimed at meeting the state’s Renewable Consumption Obligation (RCO), which aims to bridge the estimated shortfall of 12,000 MW needed by 2030 to satisfy growing demand under renewable norms.
Officials emphasise that this competitive-bidding push will ensure cost-effective, reliable clean energy supply across Telangana. The procurement will use both interstate and intrastate transmission networks (ISTS & InSTS), and be overseen by the Telangana Green Power Procurement Coordination Committee (TGPPCC). SBI Capital Markets (SBICAPS) has been appointed as the transaction advisor to support auction structuring and procurement.
For solar developers and EPCs, this opens up major opportunities — especially those looking to deploy large-scale ground-mounted or open-access projects. OrnateSolar is ready to support clients with turnkey project execution, from feasibility studies and module sourcing to grid interconnection and compliance, helping leverage this new policy window.
