Tripura is expanding its renewable energy sector with plans to install 50,000 solar units statewide this year under its clean energy program, said Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, the state has installed 12,800 solar plants. The administration is ramping up efforts to help households generate their own electricity, reducing reliance on conventional power and transforming domestic energy consumption.

The minister outlined the subsidy framework designed to increase adoption rates. The scheme provides ₹85,800 for 3-kilowatt systems, while 1-kilowatt and 2-kilowatt units receive ₹33,000 and ₹66,000, respectively. A 1-kilowatt system generates 100 units of electricity per month, cutting household energy costs and enabling users to sell surplus power.

“This initiative is not just about sustainability, it’s about financial empowerment,” Nath said, highlighting that solar systems can be installed on rooftops, tin sheds, or open spaces and last up to 25 years.
