Uttar Pradesh is targeting 22,000 MW of solar power generation by 2027, as announced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath under the Solar Energy Policy 2022. The initiative includes the development of solar parks, solarized agricultural feeders, private on-grid pumps, and solar installations along expressways and railway tracks.

The state is making strong progress in rooftop solar adoption. Over 10 lakh applications have been received under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, with more than 1 lakh installations completed. CM Yogi has directed UPNEDA to expedite connections, with a goal of 22,000 installations per month in FY 2025–26.

In addition, UP is promoting green energy through the UP Bio Energy Policy 2022 and the UP Green Hydrogen Policy 2024. Solar parks are being developed in all 17 municipal corporations, and streetlights in these cities will be powered by solar energy.

To ensure inclusive energy access, the state distributes free solar panels in Vantangiya villages and tribal areas of Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chitrakoot, and Chandauli. To support this scale, UP is also training more ‘Surya Mitras’ through Polytechnic institutes, building a skilled workforce for its solar revolution.
