Uttarakhand’s first solar fair, Saur Kauthig, dedicated to promoting solar energy, commenced at Rangers Ground, Dehradun.

The two-day event was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who emphasized Uttarakhand’s vast solar energy potential. He stated, “Uttarakhand holds immense promise for solar power generation. To harness this potential, the state government, with assistance from the Centre, is implementing various initiatives, including rooftop solar power schemes like the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. We have set an ambitious target of generating 2,500 MW of solar power between 2023 and 2027.”

State Power Secretary R. Meenakshi Sundaram highlighted that the PM Surya Ghar Yojana offers a subsidy of up to 70%—jointly funded by the Centre and the state government—for installing rooftop solar power plants with a capacity of up to 3 kW in households.

“In the past seven months, approximately 10,500 rooftop solar power plants have been installed under the scheme. This fair brings all stakeholders under one roof, offering residents an opportunity to learn more about the initiative and register for it. Those interested in installing rooftop solar plants can visit www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in or call 15555 or 1912 for further details,” Sundaram said.

The event aims to raise awareness about solar energy, promote rooftop solar installation registrations, and drive Uttarakhand’s transition to clean, sustainable energy.
