Uttar Pradesh's Solar Capacity Expands 10-Fold in 8 Years!

Over the past eight years, Uttar Pradesh’s solar capacity has surged tenfold, rising from 288 MW in 2017 to 2,653 MW today.

The Solar Energy Policy-2022 sets a target of generating 22,000 MW of solar power within five years. A major highlight of this policy is the Green Energy Corridor in Bundelkhand, featuring a 4,000 MW solar park and 800 MW solar projects aimed at strengthening power distribution in Chitrakoot, Banda, and nearby regions.

Companies like ATPC Green Energy, UPNEDA, Hinduja, and Tasco are driving solar projects across Jhansi, Jalaun, Chitrakoot, and Lalitpur. To support efficient power distribution, a 400/220 kV substation and transmission infrastructure are also being developed in Chitrakoot.

Currently, 508 MW of rooftop solar capacity has been installed on residential and govt buildings. Solar power installations at Raj Bhavan in Lucknow and collectorate buildings in several districts have positioned UP third in the country, behind Gujarat and Maharashtra, in rooftop solar implementation.

The state’s first floating solar plant is operational in Dibiyapur, Auraiya, while a 1 GW floating solar project is underway in Lalitpur.
