Vikram Solar News

Vikram Solar, which is one of the leading Indian module manufacturers and comprehensive EPC solutions & rooftop solar provider, became India’s largest module manufacturer. They have announced their new solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing unit located at IndoSpace Industrial Park, Oragadam, Tamil Nadu. This manufacturing unit was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Shri MK Stalin.

The annual manufacturing capacity of this plant will be 1.3 GW. With this, the cumulative PV module manufacturing capacity of Vikram Solar will reach 2.5 GW, which is currently the highest in India.

It will help India to achieve its target, 100 GW of solar power generation capacity by 2022. Because despite running the world’s largest clean energy program, India’s domestic manufacturing capacity is only 3GW for solar cells and 15GW for solar modules. Because of this, India’s equipment space is dominated by Chinese solar module manufacturers such as Trina Solar Ltd, Jinko Solar, ET Solar, Chint Solar, and GCL-Poly Energy Holdings Ltd.

Wafers and ingots—building blocks for manufacturing solar cells and modules—are key to India’s ambitious clean energy plans. If India is to make its ambitious clean energy plans successful, Indian solar cell and module makers like Renewsys, Waaree, etc. have to step up.

Renewsys Solar is a leading integrated manufacturer of Solar PV Modules and its key components – Encapsulants, Backsheets, and Solar PV Cells.

Mr. Gyanesh Chaudhary, Managing Director of Vikram Solar, said, “We believe that the exponential demand surge for solar energy coupled with a clarion call globally to diversify trade markets and supply chain presents a huge opportunity for indigenous solar manufacturing. Vikram Solar is committed to enable India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision and accelerate the clean energy transition. We believe, our new facility further strengthens not just Vikram Solar but the Nation’s solar manufacturing prowess and ecosystem. Apart from bridging the demand-supply gap for modules, our state-of-the-art facility will propel technological innovation, job creation and aid India’s renewable energy targets.”

Further, he added, “This is an extension of our endeavor to provide high quality, reliable, technologically superior products and timely delivery to our customers. It will further contribute as an R&D platform for next-gen module technology. We have extensively leveraged digitization to ensure reliable and efficient manufacturing operations. We thank the Tamil Nadu government for their continued support and conducive environment to enable ease of doing business within the state.”

Vikram Solar’s manufacturing footprint consists of a 1.2 GW facility in Falta, West Bengal, and a new facility of 1.3 GW in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The company has shipped over 3.5 GW PV modules globally.
