The government announced that State-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL) had invested ₹1,209 crore in ground-mounted solar power projects with a total capacity of 661 MW. CIL aims to achieve a cumulative solar capacity of 3,000 MW by 2027-28. The plan includes 211.59 MW in the current fiscal year, 697.85 MW in FY26, 1,235 MW in FY27, and 785 MW in FY28, as stated by Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy in the Rajya Sabha.
To ensure the timely execution of solar projects, the PSU has implemented several measures, including deploying CIL engineers at solar project sites to monitor and supervise activities daily and coordinate with statutory authorities to expedite clearances.
The minister further mentioned that Singareni Collieries Company Ltd has invested ₹1,182.60 crore in solar projects, whereas NLC India Ltd has spent ₹6,723.59 crore on similar projects.
CIL contributes over 80% of the country’s domestic coal production.
