In a major push for clean energy, the Delhi government has approved a subsidy of up to ₹1.08 lakh for residents installing 3-kW rooftop solar systems. The amount includes ₹78,000 from the central government under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana and an additional ₹30,000 from the Delhi government, making it the highest solar subsidy ever announced in the capital.

Approved in a cabinet meeting on May 20, the scheme aims to make solar energy more affordable and accessible for Delhi households. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta backed the state-level top-up, while Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa hailed it as a “historic” step toward cutting pollution in the city.

The scheme also supports smaller installations, offering a ₹10,000 subsidy for 1-kilowatt systems from the Delhi government. To ease adoption, bank financing of up to ₹90,000 is available for 3-kW systems, with EMIs starting at just ₹4,200, significantly lowering upfront costs for homeowners.

Along with the solar push, the Delhi cabinet has approved new measures to tackle pollution ahead of winter. These include 210 water sprinklers, 70 mechanical sweepers, and 250 additional sprinklers from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Smog guns, litter-picking machines, and automated cleaning tools will also be deployed to reduce dust and airborne pollutants, aiming to improve the city’s overall air quality.
