Solar Park Scheme

According to a statement from India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), India has approved 45 solar parks with a total capacity of 37 gigawatts (GW) under the solar park scheme.

The government is promoting solar parks, with India’s solar and wind generation reaching an all-time high of 43.1 GW on July 27. India’s installed renewable energy capacity has also surpassed the 100 GW mark.

The government stated, “Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) organized a webinar on ‘Introduction of new modes in Solar Park Scheme’ as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ last week.”

India’s demand for electricity is increasing. India’s peak power demand reached an all-time high of 200.57 GW on July 7, indicating a resurgence of economic activity in the country. Solar and wind generation also reached an all-time high of 43.1 GW on July 27, surpassing the previous high of 41.1 GW set on June 11. This reaffirms India’s push for renewable energy sources.

The statement further added, “Advisor, MNRE highlighted that solar parks can be developed with projects of all forms of Renewable Energy. The Webinar saw the active participation of close to 300 people which include representatives from State Government Departments, CPSUs, State nodal agencies, and the public at large.”

By 2022, India will have achieved 175 GW of renewable capacity, including 100 GW of solar power and 60 GW of wind power, as part of the world’s largest clean energy initiative.
