India’s clean energy momentum continues to inspire the world, with the International Solar Alliance (ISA)—co-founded by India at COP-21 in Paris—emerging as a leading force in driving solar transformation across the Global South. As of April 2025, India achieved 224 GW of renewable energy capacity, with 108 GW from solar, making it one of the largest solar markets globally.

This growth has been enabled by supportive policies, competitive tariffs (down 69% since 2014), and a strong push for local manufacturing. India now has an annual production capacity of 80 GW for solar modules and 25 GW for solar cells, supported by programs from entities like the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to ensure energy affordability and long-term resilience.

The ISA’s roadmap is centered on four pillars: the Global Solar Facility for unlocking finance, STAR-C centers for building skilled capacity, technology roadmaps for PV, storage, and green hydrogen, and country-level partnerships to drive on-ground implementation. Over 30 countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America are already aligned with this mission.

With COP-30 on the horizon, ISA aims to shift from being a convening body to a deployment enabler—accelerating solar adoption and investment. Backed by India’s leadership and manufacturing ecosystem, the alliance is setting the tone for a sustainable, equitable, and solar-powered global future.
