Lok Sabha MP, Jagdambika Pal has announced that PM Modi has defined a clear roadmap for the growth of renewable energy in India. The plan includes the target to develop multiple ultra-mega solar parks with a generation capacity of 40GW.
Speaking as a ‘Guest of Honour’ at ET Energyworld Solar Power Congress, the minister revealed that the Indian government has approved 57 solar parks with a capacity of 39,285 MW in 13 states under the ‘Development of Solar Parks and Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects’ scheme.
The one-day event organized by The Economic Times was one of the largest such initiatives on the solar industry and was held at the Hyatt Regency, New Delhi on 17th March.
Other prominent speakers at the event included Suman Sharma, MD of Solar Energy Corporation of India, Nina Fenton, Head of Regional Representation, South Asia, European Investment Bank (EIB), and Vibha Dhawan, Director General of The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI).
In her special address, Ms. Sharma declared that SECI has established itself as the biggest trader of renewable energy in India. Moreover, Ms. Nina Fenton stated that India has played a key role globally in solar energy generation, a trend that will continue in the coming years.
“We (EIB) are keen to work with the Indian private sector for undertaking corporate finance and want India to play a more important role in the global supply chain,” Fenton said.
