According to a top official, the Indian space agency ( ISRO ) can identify the ideal location for a solar power facility using data from its geostationary earth observation satellites within and beyond India. He also stated that people who are interested in technology can obtain it.
“We’ve shown how to use technology to find the ideal spots for solar power plants. We may receive inquiries as a result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement that India is willing to sell its technology to other countries “K Sivan, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Secretary of the Department of Space, expressed his thoughts.
ISRO personnel will analyze the data supplied by the satellites, according to Sivan.
At the request of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, ISRO’s Space Applications Centre (SAC) in Ahmedabad created an android application for calculating solar energy potential.
The tool can be used to install photovoltaic solar panels so that solar energy can be harnessed.
Mr. Narendra Modi remarked at the COP26 summit: “I also want to let you know that our space agency, ISRO, will be presenting a solar calculator application to the rest of the globe today. The solar power potential of any location on the planet may be calculated using satellite data with this calculator. This program will aid in the location of solar projects and enhance the concept of ‘One Sun, One World, One Grid.'”
The tool calculates solar potential (in kWh/m2) and lowest and maximum temperatures for any place on a monthly and annual basis. It also shows the location on the satellite image, as well as azimuth/elevation angles and day duration for various periods throughout the year. According to ISRO, the relevant location can be entered in or obtained via GPS. On the image, the location is shown with satellite data in the background.
It provides monthly and annual solar potentials based on data from Indian Geostationary Satellites (Kalpana-1, INSAT-3D, and INSAT-3DR). It also includes monthly minimum and maximum temperatures, which can be used to determine a realistic solar potential. The Digital Elevation Model is also used to calculate sunlight obstruction due to terrain (DEM). The app also recommends the best tilt angle for solar PV installation. The application can be downloaded at vedas.sac.gov.in’s “New and Renewable Energy” section.
Mr. Narendra Modi promised South Asia a satellite, which was ultimately released by ISRO in 2017 as GSAT-9/South Asia Spacecraft (previously SAARC Spacecraft), a communication/meteorology spacecraft. Meanwhile, when asked about upcoming satellite launches, Sivan stated that nothing has been finalized yet and that ISRO is working on it. A revamped foreign direct investment policy is also being drafted, according to Sivan.
