Maharashtra to Power All Government Offices with Solar Energy by December 2025

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reaffirmed the state’s clean-energy ambitions at the inauguration of MahaUrja’s new green building in Pune on Sunday, June 8, 2025. He stated that all government offices across the state will switch to solar power by December 2025, supporting the nationwide rollout of the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Yojana.

Fadnavis outlined a two-phase strategy aligned with the Suryaghar initiative: in the first phase, households consuming up to 100 units of electricity will transition to solar; in the second phase, those consuming up to 300 units will follow—aiming to eliminate electricity bills for these consumers.

He further highlighted Maharashtra’s strides in solar-powered agriculture: the state has installed over 5 lakh solar pumps in two years, outpacing the rest of India during the same period. Under the Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana, the state plans to convert 16,000 MW of agricultural feeder capacity to solar by 2026, making it the largest decentralized solar project in Asia.

The newly inaugurated MahaUrja building, designed to net-zero standards, serves as a model of the government’s commitment to green architecture and renewable energy adoption. CM Fadnavis expressed confidence that these measures will position Maharashtra as a national leader in clean energy, contributing significantly to the goal of 50% electricity from renewable sources by 2030
