Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has announced a tender inviting bids for a large-scale battery energy storage (BESS) project aimed at strengthening grid stability and supporting renewable energy integration across the state. The tender calls for the development of 500 MW / 1,000 MWh standalone BESS systems under a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model, with bids due by February 13, 2026 and techno-commercial evaluations to follow.
The project will be located at two key substations — Ablowal in Patiala and Laltonkalan in Ludhiana — with 250 MW / 500 MWh capacity planned at each site. Bidders are required to submit a range of financial guarantees including an Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) of ₹4.71 lakh per MW and a Performance Bank Guarantee (PBG) of ₹11.775 lakh per MW, along with associated tender fees.
Under the terms of the tender, bids must be submitted via the Bharat Electronic Tender portal, with physical delivery of financial instruments to the PSPCL office required shortly after online submission. Successful developers will enter into a 12-year Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) and must ensure the facility is available for two cycles per day with a minimum 95 % monthly availability, ensuring reliable performance.
