India’s Solar Energy Corporation (SECI) has launched a large-scale tender seeking 2 GW of grid-connected solar power while mandating the inclusion of 4 GWh of battery energy storage. Developers must pair each megawatt of solar capacity with at least 500 kW/2 MWh of storage capacity, providing installation flexibility that’s open to either direct developer ownership or through a third-party supplier.
Projects will be awarded on a build‑own‑operate (BOO) basis, and SECI will sign 25-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with successful bidders. This ensures long-term revenue certainty, making the package more attractive to investors and likely accelerating India’s shift toward a stable, renewable-based power supply.
By combining solar generation with substantial storage, the tender supports India’s goal of balancing intermittent renewable energy and strengthening grid reliability. Developers are encouraged to place these installations anywhere in the country, which could lead to enhanced solar capacity and energy resilience across diverse regions.
