UP Government Planning to Solarize Bundelkhand Expressway

Highlights:

  • Solar panels will be installed on both sides of the expressway
  • The project, which is part of UP’s Solar Policy 2022, will be developed on the PPP model

Uttar Pradesh’s Bundelkhand Expressway is all set to go solar.

The State government has announced plans to add solar panels on both sides of the 296 km stretch, on the 15-20 meter wide vacant space between the main carriageway and service lane. The installation will separate the expressway from agricultural land.

The initiative is part of the state’s ambitious solar policy 2022 which is targeting 22 GW of solar capacity by 2026-27. As per reports, the installation will be made on the PPP model (Public Private Partnership), and Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has already issued instructions seeking expressions of interest from private companies.

The organization will also develop industrial clusters in the Jalaun and Banda stretch of the expressway.

The UP government is making significant strides to boost the state’s renewable energy capacity. The government recently announced plans to set up a 40 MW solar plant in Ayodhya, which will be developed as a solar city. UP has also begun introducing solar-powered ferry rides in selected cities to reduce pollution.
