The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a proposal to set up a 40 MW solar plant in Ayodhya. A total of 165.10 acres of land has been identified in Rampur Halwara and Sarairashi Pargana villages under Sardar tehsil for setting up the solar plant.
The project will generate 70.08 million units of energy annually and meet the energy requirements of the entire district.
The plant will be developed by NTPC Green Energy Limited, a fully owned subsidiary of power giant NTPC. The organization will invest approximately ₹160 crore for the same. The power will be purchased by Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (UPPCL). Moreover, the state government will spend around ₹9 crore in transmitting the generated energy.
The new project is part of the Uttar Pradesh Solar Power Policy 2022, which has set the target of developing 22 GW of solar energy by 2026-27. Under the new policy, the state government will develop locations such as Ayodhya as solar cities, increase land availability for setting up solar projects, and set up solar parks and floating solar projects.
In June, the government also announced plans to introduce solar-powered ferries in Ayodhya and Varanasi.
