JMK research has recently released a report stating that India plans to increase its utility-scale solar capacity by 15.5 GW during the 2023-24 period, as long as the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers remains postponed until March 2024. Moreover, approximately 2.5 GW – 3 GW of capacity will be added in the rooftop solar segment.
The renewable energy installation capacity in India has now reached 125.2 GW, out of which 53% is attributed to solar energy.
The country added 12,784 MW of solar capacity in FY2023, which includes 8 GW of utility-scale solar. Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra were the states that had the highest number of large-scale installations.
2.2 GW capacity was added through rooftop solar systems in the last financial year. The highest number of installations in this segment were in Gujarat (687 MW) followed by Maharashtra and Kerala.
Additionally, the report also reveals that the nation’s wind energy sector added 2.27 GW of new capacity in FY2023, a 105% rise from the previous year.
