In line with its aim to expand its clean energy sources, Apple, the iPhone manufacturer, announced on Wednesday its collaboration with renewable energy developer CleanMax to invest in six rooftop solar projects to power its India operations.
The solar project, boasting a total capacity of 14.4 megawatts, will provide a local solution to power the company’s offices and the two retail stores in Mumbai and New Delhi, as announced by the Cupertino-based smartphone giant in a statement.
The firm said it has already achieved 100 percent clean energy for its global corporate operations in 2018.
In the United States, Apple has revealed plans to bolster its solar portfolio in Michigan, aiming to add 132 megawatts of clean energy to its grid, the company announced. Moreover, it has also tied up with a solar development platform in Spain for a 105 megawatts project, which is likely to go live by the end of this year.
“Clean energy and water are foundational to healthy communities and essential building blocks for a responsible business,” said Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives. “We’re racing toward our ambitious Apple 2030 climate goal while taking on the long-term work to transform electrical grids and restore watersheds to build a cleaner future for all.”
Last year, Apple successfully reached its goal of 100% water replenishment for its corporate operations in India.
