The idea behind Ornate InRoof is simple- to revolutionize the way solar power systems are installed over rooftops.

We had roofs with panels before. Now, the panels themselves have become the roof! A waterproof, futuristic roof that can power the entire building.

The beauty of InRoof however, lies in the fact that it is fully customizable. The recent solar InRoof installation in Ludhiana, Punjab is a great example of this adaptive engineering.

Ornate InRoof Solution for GEM Technologies

GEM Technologies is one of the leading manufacturers of Metal Surface Treatment Chemicals for paint-based applications, cold forming, and coil coating. The Ludhiana-based company prioritizes high-quality and safety while striving to be environmentally conscious in all its efforts.

With this same environmental consciousness, the founders Mr. Urvish Verma and Mr. Ayush Verma turned to solar to meet the energy needs of their new chemical factory in Sahnewal, Ludhiana.

However, rather than opting for the traditional rooftop systems installed over metal sheets, GEM Technology has something else in mind.

Young entrepreneur Ayush Verma wanted a modern system that not only adequately met their power needs but also did not compromise on the aesthetic appeal of the building.

When Ornate Solar proposed to install a solar InRoof solution, Mr. Verma was genuinely fascinated with the engineering that went behind it.

Ornate InRoof is a solar structure that intelligently incorporates solar panels into the roof of the building. This way, the structure not only generates power but also functions as the primary roof of the building.

It uses underutilized spaces such as building roofs, parking lots, corridors, playgrounds, pergolas, etc., and turns them into mini powerhouses. The technology is locally designed and the organization has patented the components.

GEM Technologies believed that a structure like solar InRoof could be the right fit. And that’s exactly what we set about to do.

The Preparation

The process began with a thorough assessment of the space. The first challenge was the design of the roof. GEM’s new factory was to have a double-sloped roof, with one side receiving more sunlight than the other.

Since the building’s energy requirement was not too high, Ornate’s team of engineers decided to install a hybridized-roof integrated project, where the metal sheets and solar panels are seamlessly interfaced together.

High efficiency solar modules got placed on the slope with maximum energy potential.

Since the building was to be made into a chemical factory, there was also growing concern about the durability of the project. Would the chemical discharge have an adverse effect on the structure?

To avoid such a scenario, our technical team tested a sample structure against the chemical discharge from the facility. Further, to eliminate any residual hesitations, and ensure the complete security of the InRoof, the team also consulted Canadian Solar, the manufacturer of the panels being used.

Only when the team received a green light on both ends, that the installation of the Ornate InRoof began.

The Results

The installation of India’s first Hybrid-Roof Integrated Project in Ludhiana was concluded in just 96 hours.

Now, GEM’s chemical factory proudly boasts a 36kW InRoof installed over an area of 2600 sq. ft. The Ornate Team used Canadian Solar’s 450Wp MONO PERC solar panels and Enphase IQ7A Microinverters to ensure high power output and longer shelf life.

The energy system will annually generate 62.5Mwh of energy and has an average payback period of 4.5 years.

Further, this sustainable structure will help GEM Technologies save approximately 1241 Kg of metal and prevent the emission of an estimated 2 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.

But most importantly, the Ornate InRoof structure was able to meet the expectations set by GEM Technologies.

“We are very happy with the expertise and professionalism shown by Ornate throughout our journey. I am truly bullish on the pervasiveness the solutions provided by Ornate are going to achieve in terms of creating self-sustaining Manufacturing units.” Said Mr. Ayush Verma,

The Ornate InRoof Advantages

1. The Solar InRoof structures use a special climate-resistant seal and are completely leakproof.

2. By accommodating 26% more panels, the InRoof guarantees higher power output than traditional systems from the same amount of area.

3. It can utilize all types and brands of solar panels and inverters and is completely customizable

4. The structure eliminates/reduces the need for metal roofing and prevents overheating by allowing airflow

5. Ornate InRoof has a smart and sleek design that compliments the architecture of all types of buildings.

6. The structure is more sustainable than traditional systems, as it produces green energy and reduces carbon emissions by eliminating the need for sheet roofing.

7. The structure comes with one of the longest warranties in the industry.
