Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has successfully commissioned a 100 MW floating solar photovoltaic plant in Telangana. The plant, which is fully operational now, is installed in the city of Ramgundum. According to officials, it is the largest floating solar PV plant in India.
As per the company statement, the plant has been set up over a large natural reservoir, saving land resources. With its innovatively engineered layouts and arrangements of the PV modules, the plant will not only prevent water evaporation but also protect the aquatic ecosystem.
Moreover, all the primary components in the plant- including solar PV modules, floaters, biodegradable natural ester oil-filled inverter-duty transformers, switchgear, SCADA, and cables were produced in the country, marking the company’s contribution to ‘Make in India’ movement.
The plant is BHEL’s third solar floating project after their 25 MW plant at NTPC Simhadri and 22 MW plant at NTPC Kayamkulam.
